Golf clubs tend to turn away golfers that do not meet the clubs dress code. You can though usually buy the appropriate gear at the club but you should expect to pay premium price for that. It is therefore important to pack the right golf clothes for your golf vacation in the beginning.
Never assume that the dress code at your local golf club is valid everywhere. If you are playing on a new golf course, it is always safest to check the dress rules in advance. The rules tend to be stricter the more expensive the golf club is.
Smart and conservative look is always the best bet when playing on unfamiliar golf course. In general, collared shirt and tailored pants or shorts will be suitable for most golf courses.
Some golf courses though insist on women wearing skirts but most allow pants and shorts as well. Skorts (shorts with skirt flap on the front so it looks like a skirt but wears like shorts) are increasingly popular option.
If you are going on a golf vacation in a warm climate it is a good idea to bring lightweight long trousers as well as short alternatives (short, skirt, or skort). If you do not use the long pants on the golf course, you can always wear them when going out for casual dinner at night.
However, if you are playing during the cooler times of the year, or in cooler climates, then dressing in layers is advisable. Pack long sleeve shirts, golf sweater or vest, as well as good jacket or golf rain gear.
Recognized golf clothes brands are always the safest choice when playing on a new golf course. Many clubs do not allow clothes designed for other sports than golf, e.g. football shirts or beachwear.
Pants or shorts that do not cling to your legs are the most comfortable. Pockets big enough for couple of tees and few extra balls are also good idea.
Neutral colors tend to be the most popular. If you like more colorful attire, then it is good idea to choose one bright color and wear it with some neutral colors. It is not wise to be too creative with colors and patterns on unfamiliar golf course.
You will be doing lot of walking so good golf shoes are vital. Your golf shoes should have soft spikes as almost all golf courses have banned metal spikes as they damage the greens. Golf clubs in warm climates usually allow golf sandals but do check beforehand if you have not played there before.
Bringing some rain gear just in case is always a good idea. You do not want few drops to spoil your golf vacation.
